Girls of Promise: Alumnae Track
WFA has added a 10th grade alumnae track to Girls of Promise conferences! This half-day track includes presentations on:
- College Applications & How to Write a "Can't Be Refused" Application Essay
- How to Request & Receive a Glowing Letter of Recommendation
- FAFSA & Other Financial Aid
- Social Media Effects on College Applications
The alumnae track, piloted at UALR in 2011, was available in 2012 at Girls of Promise conferences hosted at ASU, Tech, NWACC, and UALR.
Details
Registration is Free. To participate in the Girls of Promise Alumnae Track, one must 1) have attended a Girls of Promise conference when in 8th grade and 2) currently be in 10th grade.
WFA does not provide or arrange transportation to/from Girls of Promise conferences. Alumnae check-in is at 8:45 AM the morning of the conference. Dismissal for alumnae track participants is after the Keynote Address (approximately 12:00 PM).

Girls of Promise Alumnae currently in 10th grade may register to participate in the alumnae track of their choice by submitting a completed Alumnae Permission Form.
Girls of Promise: Alumnae Essay Contest
Three winners from WFA's second Girls of Promise Alumnae Essay Contest were celebrated at the 2012 Designing Women event!
Rules
Answer one essay question. Essays will be judged on your incorporation of Girls of Promise concepts and values into your life as well as your ability to convey your thoughts clearly and concisely. Submissions over 1,000 words will not be considered. Submission deadline is 12:00 AM on April 1, 2012.
Questions
1) What do you consider the impact of attending a Girls of Promise conference to be on your life? If every eighth-grade girl in Arkansas attended a Girls of Promise conference, what impact could that have on our state?
2) What was the promise you made to yourself at the Closing General Session of your Girls of Promise conference and are you actively working to fulfill that promise? How has making that promise impacted your decision making?
3) Did attending a Girls of Promise conference motivate you to pursue classes in a ESTEM (economics, science, technology, engineering, math) field? What benefits do you see careers in ESTEM fields have for women?
2011 winners were Mary Hefley (GoP-Tech 2008), Jordan Cross (GoP-UALR 2001), and Jade Collins (GoP-Tech 2008).
